A Great Bottle of Estate 1856 Petit Verdot!

Tasting Notes

The inviting combination of the inky purple hue and aromatics of lush ripe berries with traces of floral and oak makes this wine too tempting not to sip. And when you do, you won’t be disappointed. The dark blend of blackberry, cherry and huckleberry seamlessly merges with traces of chocolate, espresso and herbs de Provence with a kiss of lavender. The bright, juicy flavors and integrated structure showcase this sophisticated varietal.

Review – Ken’s Wine Guide

“This opaque and very dark ruby colored Petit Verdot opens with a wet stone and plum bouquet with hints of black raspberry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, slight astringent, thick and lush. The flavor profile is mineral and oak influenced juicy plum with notes of Earl grey tea. The finish is dry and its very dry flinty tannins are long lasting and linger. The Panel suggested pairing this Petit Verdot with beef bourguignon. Enjoy – KWGTP” Ken’s Wine Rating: Very Good+ (90) Review Date March 25, 2020

Vintage Notes

Growing grapes is our passion…and having a growing season with few ups and downs keeps our blood pressure low! This 2016 season followed the previous vintages with early budbreak followed by some typical Spring showers that did not interfere with set in May and early June. The consistent weather with fewer than normal hot spells during Summer produced even ripening with great color development. August was cooler than normal allowing great hang time before harvest. We were able to harvest all of our fruit carefully…even with the season presenting several varieties ripening at the same time! Daily tasting evaluations of our wine in our fermentation tanks were consistently flavorful, giving an insight into the great wines with pure flavors!

Winemaking Notes

Our winemaking protocol demands separate small carefully temperature regulated fermentations for each varietal providing optimum treatment for each of our four Cabernet clones. These wines are carefully pressed direct to barrel and are aged separately until rigorous blending trials the Spring before Summer bottling. Each individual barrel is tasted for uniqueness and provides an essential blend diversity that typifies our wines as well as an exceptional 22 month ageing period.

Food Pairing Suggestion

Enjoy a pairing of saltimbocca alla Romana (opens in new window), or grilled shish kabobs served with a quinoa pilaf with duxelles.
