2015 DUVALL’S PROSPECT (Bordeaux Blend)
PRE-RELEASE

GOLD MEDAL
2018 Sonoma County Harvest Fair

Tasting Notes

Rich, enticing aromatics of toasty vanillin oak mingle with vine-ripened blackberries and a kiss of coconut. A silken entry exposes the luscious blend of currant, blackberry, and dark cherry with hints of raspberry and blueberry. Cedary oak notes caress the layers of fruit as the long finish exposes traces of cocoa and espresso. The oak and tannic backbone supports the flavors, making this wine an excellent candidate for cellaring—but the wine is so delicious now it may be hard to wait to drink it.

FROM KEN’S WINE GUIDE: “This pitch black colored Cabernet Sauvignon based blend opens with black currant and oak blend with a hint black cherry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced and smooth. The flavor profile is a black currant and mineral blend with notes of oak, plum and spice. I also detected hints of black pepper. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins stick around for a while. This blend would pair nicely with thin sliced beef brisket. Enjoy – Ken – Ken” August 4, 2018 Rating: Very Good+ (90 points)

Vintage Notes

Vintage 2015 brought much needed rain in December followed by a slightly dryer and warmer than normal spring. Early budbreak was followed by perfect weather with no rain that led to an extended bloom period and slightly smaller than normal clusters. The vineyard was watched closely as we entered the pre-harvest period…and the vines were monitored for stress during our normal late season heat events. Harvest went smoothly…with wines settling into fermenters with great color being observed through the cold soak period. These early wines were very flavorful…leading to these great wines that were to come!

Winemaking Notes

Our winemaking protocol demands separate small carefully temperature regulated fermentations for each varietal providing optimum treatment for each Cabernet clone as well as for our Malbec and Petit Verdot. These wines are carefully pressed direct to barrel and are aged separately until rigorous blending trials the Spring before Summer bottling. Each individual barrel is tasted for uniqueness and provides an essential blend diversity that typifies our wines as well as an exceptional 22 month ageing period.

Food Pairing Suggestion
