Tasting Notes

Upon opening, fresh aromas of blueberry and black raspberry burst forth as traces of vanilla and mocha, along with spice notes, join the bright berry essence. As the wine continues to open, the aromas deepen, offering darker tones. The smooth entry leads to a core of juicy blueberry threaded with cocoa and baking spices. An underlying oak and tannin structure supports the luscious flavors, while gently staying in the background.

Winemaker Notes

The 2012 growing season started with less-than-normal rainfall in Spring, which was so helpful in moderating early-season mold and mildew issues on the tender new leaves. We experienced beautiful weather during bloom and set that helped all of our pollinated flowers create grapes. Ideal summer growing conditions – cool nights and warm afternoons – gave the fruit time to develop over a long hang time period and came into harvest in perfect condition!

Our winemaking protocol demands separate small carefully temperature regulated fermentations for each varietal providing optimum treatment for our Malbec. This wine is carefully pressed direct to barrel and those barrels are aged separately until rigorous blending trials the Spring before Summer bottling. Each individual barrel is tasted for uniqueness and provides an essential blend diversity that typifies our wines as well as an exceptional 22 month ageing period.
